Summary
Open Lab Reports → Inbox.
Red upward arrows = abnormal results. Review oldest abnormal results first (see setup steps below).
Review results in context with the patient summary.
Document in Consultations; update patient via Accurx.
Complete any further actions required, then file + comment.
1. Click "Lab Reports" to begin
2. Click "Inbox" under Lab Reports
3. Click the second tab to organise by abnormals for GP review. Red arrow up = abnormal. Leave any HPV/smear results — these are for a different clinical team.
4. From the 'Received' tab, work in oldest date order. Take care — there may be multiple pages.
5. Click the oldest received date to begin
6. The screen will split horizontally, with the lab report results on the bottom
7. Click on a result to see a visual graph trend of previous results
8. 🩺 Use your clinical judgement to assess the result. Check the patient summary, recent consultations, and current medications to add context and support a holistic review.
➡️ Once you’ve decided on the appropriate action, move to Step 9.
❗️ Possible actions include (but are not limited to):
Documentation (you only need to do this if you have any significant clinical notes you wish to free text)
Amend medication (add/remove)
Task for appointment
Make a referral
Request repeat bloods
Set up a diary recall
Send patient a text
Escalate

9. Click "Add Consultation" to add a note if necessary
10. Ensure the consultation type is Administrative and press OK
11. Click "Comment" to add any note relevant to the action
12. Once actions are complete, go back to the lab report page and click "File and Comment"
13. Click the dropdown to select the outcome as per the consultation notes
14. ⚠️ Untick "Send notification" before proceeding — otherwise the patient will receive an unwanted notification. Send texts via AccuRx only (max 3 fragments).
15. You can also send a task to the appropriate team by selecting 'Send Task'
16. Add a due date or mark as urgent. Add task details so the recipient has enough information to act.
17. Click "File" to complete. The result will be ticked as viewed and filed, and will auto-archive.
